Hair cut

Sometimes I think I have nothing to post, and so I work hard at coming up with one… anything… just to keep writing. I finally had one this morning, and posted… and now I’ve been handed another… I got very tired of K waking up with hair in her face today… it’s really bad when she has a cold, and the hair sticks to the nose…

So I got out the sissors and did a quick trim just to keep it out of her eyes a bit.

Then I made my mistake… when will I learn??? I went to the bathroom… and left the sissors sitting right there on the ottoman, where a big sister could find them… You can see where this is going, can’t you??? Here’s what I came back to, with S saying “I just wanted it out of her eyes!”:

Oh… I am so sorry, K!!! Next time we’ll just go to Snipits!

Mommy can’t cook

Yes, I admit, I am not the best cook in the world. This was handed to me yesterday. See, I can boil water, but hard boiled eggs, not so much. I don’t want them to be under done, so I often over cook them.

Then my mom got me this cool timer… you put it in the water with the eggs, and it turns color to show you if the eggs are soft, medium or hard boiled. It’s slick and works like a charm.

My boys couldn’t wait to get an egg. They really like them, and have never thought anything about how they are cooked… until yesterday… While J was eating his, he looked at the yoke, a nice yellow, and said, “Hey, aren’t the insides supposed to be GREEN???”

Tongue twisted

I promise he is in the 3rd grade. I know I didn’t have to do anything like this when I was in the 3rd grade… oh what a difference private school makes.

J has to have a report done – type written. And do an oral report. And an art project. His class is studying the body, and each child was assigned a part… J got the tongue. I have learned all kinds of crazy things about the tongue. Like did you know the average human tongue is 4 inches? Did you know the largest human tongue recorded is 7 inches? How about this one… did you know a cow’s tongue is about 11.5 inches????

For his art project he and his Daddy took 4 blocks of red clay and this is what they came up with:

A Little Adventure

November is a birthday month for us… as both K and T have birthdays… two days apart! This year, I’m not sure how it came about, but I decided to take T on a trip for his birthday… I had to get around the fact that two days before his birthday is K’s first birthday… not one you can just skip over!

Everything seemed to fall into place, and within a matter of a couple days, I had fight, hotel, Blue Man Group tix and Universal Theme Park tix all paid for and ready to go… and it was still a month out! And it was all going to be a big surprise!

Things were going to be tight, and I knew it, but pieces just fell into place and it was smooth… ‘guess I should have known it couldn’t stay that way…

4:30am… K wakes up… wants to nurse… we are trying to stop, and I’ve been very busy the last couple days, so she’s been with Grandma a lot… all makes for a little girl who want’s some snuggle time with Mommy. Sigh. Back into bed about 5.

6am… G climbs into my bed… “I’ve been throwing up in my bed…” Come to find out, since 2 he’d been getting up, throwing up and Grandma has been taking care of him!!! Yea Grandma… she ROCKS!!!

8:20am… at the dr. office to make sure G doesn’t have strep (vomiting is big for him with strep, which he gets easy) or at least is on the right meds before we leave!

9:45am… just a virus for G, so we are off to Target to pick up K’s cake and T’s cake… should be done by 10, and I needed a couple other things too.

10:10… find out they haven’t even started K’s cake yet… sigh… another 20 minutes to kill, and find out everyone is already at my house.

10:50am… everything seems to settle, back at home, all cakes in hand, party started (wishing I brought the camera so I could put up some pix… will do later). For the most part things went very well. We had a great time with family. K is so durn cute!

12:45pm… tell T we must go get his b-day gift… make him drive, only telling him “head here” or “turn here.” Fun 😉 We board plane and fly to FL for our big fun!

7:30pm… pick up rental car… a Corvette! He’s a HAPPY boy! Plug hotel info in and we are off.

8:15pm… something went wrong, and not quite the right hotel… decide to find place to eat. Meet a great Christian waiter named R… God is funny sometimes!

11:10… finally get to right hotel, check in and up to the room… only to find it looks like someone has been on the bed… and there’s beer bottles in the trash and toilet paper in the toilet…

11:45… finally in a clean room where we will be staying… with free breakfast coupons in hand.

OK… so that’s the first day… I’m very tired… I will write more and post pix later!

Girls Night Out

Even a mom of four can have one once in a while… I got to go with some friends for a Girls Night Out, to a Nashville Predators hockey game a few nights ago… and as always, my kids have to make things “interesting” … or something like that.

The plan was to leave at 4:30, grab the kids some dinner, meet my DH at his office by 5:30, give him 3 of the four, take K with me to meet the others by 6. My mistake, you ask??? I went to the bathroom. I’m quite sure there is a rule, written or unwritten, somewhere, that says a mom can not go near a bathroom until all children are in bed. If she does, the children either 1) must follow her into said bathroom or 2) use the free time to do something they know they should not.

Sweet, sassy S decided number 2 looked too good to pass on. I should have known when I actually had a few moments to myself that I would live to regret laugh at it… eventually.

Upon returning to the living room to begin packing children, diaper bag, juice glasses, homework, shoes, etc into the van, I was greeted by K’s sweet smile… such a joy… oh, man she pulled her hair band out… wait… it’s more than that… What is that??? I spot a bottle of lotion… nope not the right consitancy… then I see it… on the floor in front of the couch… a newly emptied tube of DESITIN!!! Yes, S had finished off the tube in her sister’s hair…

She got a very quick bath, a Dawn shampoo, and we were off to the hockey game… At least we had fun!

You Know You’re A Parent 2

My cousin, KS, is a first time mother. Her sister, RR, came for a visit not too long ago. KS took the time for a shower.

When she came back she was very excited. “Thank you! Thank you! I got to shave both legs at the same time!”

Then there was this one from S: we were at my Grandma’s and S’s hair was the topic of conversation. Grandma was telling S how lucky she was to have curls in her hair. Mom added “And blond to boot.”

S replyed “I don’t have boobs.”

Or maybe the time I was asked by S to put her socks on. I told her they wouldn’t fit me.

“Not on you… You’re too fat”

Yep… You are a parent too.

Baby Talk

So I’m walking through the grocery store today because we DESPERATELY needed me to. (G has asked me every morning for the last week for his “Pop Tarets” to which I have had to tell him we don’t have any… not the answer he wanted to hear.)

Not only did I go today… I went without any children!!! Yea for me. (I know how sad that sounds… when did it be come a thrill to go to the store??? When you can go and not have to tell someone NOT to touch that, then you will understand.)

And I’m walking, looking at the fruit and on over to the cereal. While I am looking at Cheerios I suddenly realized something I did not want to know…

I found myself actually talking out loud… OUT LOUD!!!! I was having a conversation with… MYSELF. Ugh… I have had a non-talking child in the cart so long I don’t even think about talking out loud and not having someone answer… so sad… I have now become the crazy woman you don’t want to be around…

Maybe taking K would have been a good idea…

New Math?

I hope this one works better than the last video I tried to share…

If there is a problem, try this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpGH02DtIws

So.. let me see if I understand this… he’s been to 57 states? He has one left to go? But he hasn’t been to Alaska or Hawaii??? Maybe J thinking AL was not part of the states wasn’t so bad…

Santa in August

We got up a bit late this morning, not a great start to our time with the in-laws! After a couple false starts, we got on the road for real… only 2 hrs later than we had thought… not too bad. With the short drive, we were here by lunch time and after grabbing lunch, in the park by 2ish.

We are in Dale, IN… the middle of a bunch of corn fields. Really… this water/amusement park, a Denny’s, a hotel and town folk are the only thing out here… that’s not a corn field. For a warm summer day, there were not very many people here…oh, yeah, it’s Friday… I bet we are swarmed tomorrow.

I am thinking about my friend, KC, today… see her daughters tried to bring her shopping for her birthday a couple of years ago…this park is called Holiday World, and it’s in Santa Clause, IN… KC loves her holidays! And it would be a great place to shop for Christmas stuff… except it’s a theme park… the rides are all named some type of 4th of July, Christmas, Halloween, or Thanksgiving kind of name. And there’s not much else here, so to be here in the off season… well, let’s just say there wasn’t much for the ladies to do.

So, KC… bring the grandkids during the summer. They would love it! And, for a theme park, they have some very cool food things… like unlimited, free soft drinks all day long. NO, really… stop laughing, ‘cuz I’m not kidding. They have Pepsi (another bonus) Oasis set all over the park. You walk in, grab a cup, ice, and drink and out the door. They’re set up like any restaurant where you can get your own drink. To top it off, even the food price is not too bad… the in-laws ate there yesterday… four adults for $20. Wow!

I will put pix up… probably after we get home ‘cuz I’m just too tired right now. I’ve got 5 people asleep in this hotel room, and I need to do the same. I’m having a senior moment… and I’m much too young for those… I know there were some great things said.. I am just not remembering them right now… Maybe tomorrow…
